CHURCH TRAILS FOR CHILDREN

(See also the NADFAS home page for a tab on this subject).

This project was started in the Wessex Area in 2007, utilising the skills of members in both Church Recording and Young Arts. The idea is to produce quiz sheets aimed at 8 to 12 year olds, challenging them on items of cultural heritage to be found within a church. The parents (or teachers) have a detailed set of answers, to ensure that the right explanation is given!

The project was such a success, being the source of much fun and information for children and adults alike, that it has now spread into many other Areas of the UK.

NADFAS has developed sets of templates for the quiz sheets and answers, so each project lasts for only a few weeks and keeps the cost low for the sponsoring DFAS.

Training for the Future. A successful free workshop on Church Trails was held in Spring 2010. Anyone interested in preparing a Church Trail is invited to contact us on: churchrecording@nadfas-westsurreyarea.org.uk

St Nicholas, Pyrford. A Record of this church was presented by Woking DFAS in 2001. With many thanks to a national member of NADFAS (and to her son James who provided technical support!) and to Windlebrook DFAS, the Area has now produced its first Church Trail. It was launched at the church flower festival at 11am on 19 June 2009.

St John the Baptist, Windlesham. Work on another Church Trail has just begun, supported by Windlebrook DFAS.
