NADFAS - the National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies was established to promote
the cultivation, appreciation and study of the decorative and fine arts and the giving of aid to the
preservation of our national artistic heritage for the benefit of the public.
NADFAS has a national membership of about 90,000 and is divided into twenty geographical areas,
one of which covers mainland Europe. There are more than 330 individual societies as well as
affiliated societies in Australia and New Zealand.
In the West Surrey Area of NADFAS there are 18 societies, from Runnymede in the north to
Haslemere in the south. These societies promote the aims of NADFAS through lectures on the
fine and decorative arts in the widest sense, as well as study days, visits and tours. Volunteer
groups within and among the societies play an active role in the core NADFAS activities of Church
Recording, Heritage Conservation and promotion of Young Arts programmes.
The West Surrey Area team offer support to the 18 societies in West Surrey through Area meetings, Educational Events and Visits, a Programme Planning Seminar, Training for new and potential committee members and coordination of the Heritage Volunteers, Church Recording, Church Trails and Young Arts initiatives. The Area Chairman represents the Area at National level, reporting on societies' achievements and challenges and raising issues of NADFAS policy and developments locally.
